A SALE. 50% off all Art Work on this site from June 14th - June 28th 2020] in support of Black Lives Matter.

From June 14th - June 28th 2020 all available work will be for sale at 50%off the listed price. Amazing!

This time of outpouring of protests and support for the black community in The USA following George Loyd’s death by police brutality is momentous in that it promises change against racist police brutality and inhumane acts of violence against our fellow citizens.

This is an opportunity to support a cause (the consciouskid.org) that will start the conversation early in a child’s life while adding to or starting your art collection.

I have chosen to donate to this particular charity after witnessing a 7 year-old inflict racist remarks on his black class mate until the young black boy broke down in tears, heartbreaking! The other kids, in shock, did not understand what was happening enough to stand up for their black friend. This Anti-Racist discussion has to begin early in life too.

There’s a possibility that some images you have seen on Instagram may not be on my web site. Please email me with questions and interests, catherine@catherinerichardsonart.com

To purchase, please email me for info and confirmation that the work is still available. Payments are accepted via PAY PAL, Apple Pay, SQUARE, Shipping not included.

I will show legitimate donation proof on each sale my end and here are the details of my chosen charity

Collaborative project, California to Ireland

My fascination with geological forces that create landscapes have brought me to a collaborative project with artist Brooke Holve. We met over our common interest in Iceland, the country and it’s wild and pristine landscape. We have both spent 1 month at art residencies in separate years in the southwest part of the island plus touring visits in other years, Brooke has visited there 4 times and I twice.

One of our projects is tracing rare earth elements and minerals, used to power smart phones, to their sources.

We look at changing landscapes as these commodities are extracted for industry. What is happening on earth’s surface while the underworld is exposed and required. These paintings are inspired from shapes that make up the components inside of an iPhone.

Thoughts about Abstraction in my practice

AB STRACT ACTION

Action combined with emotion along with my topic of interest are ingredients that make up my art practice.

For me my practice is the consistent Action of manipulating materials and methods for visual interpretation. What unfolds on paper, panel, canvas or various substrates becomes the abstraction. Something that does not directly portray topic/object.

The abstract work is a mix of sub-conscious and conscious mark making expressed from observations, research, travel etc. on that which I am passionate about.

Systematically this focuses on natural phenomena; geology, altered landscape, minerals and effects from climate. My work is organized by sense of format, composition, colour and tone. Materiality plays a big part in developing visual language that signifies mystery and other meaningful dimensions. I believe this happens more often in moments of experimentation and letting go of control, which is the opposite of building realistic painting and rendering, the latter being an excellent practice in eye-hand co-ordination.
