Erosion | Eroding
On this page, I invite you to get a closer look into my practice at the London, UK studio workspace to show WIP, (works in process) where experiments with materials and surfaces; forays into 3D “sculpture” and general disorganized order.
This is a recent and continuing series focusing on erosion, apprized by my ongoing fascination with geology.
Why am I intrigued by geology?
It represents to me “the big picture” a phenomenon so much vaster than our daily comprehension. It is constantly morphing yet in a vastly different cadence to a human life span. I regard it as a stabilizing force in a rapidly challenging world environment and in my dilemma of moving back and forth between continents and cultures.
Erosion, a natural geological phenomenon, is affected by a rhythm different from its geological source. It is subject to the process by which the earth's surface is worn away, sculpted, by the action of water, glaciers, winds, waves, etc.
The eroding phenomenon, fascinating and curious to monitor, also serves as a metaphor for personal transitions and constant change.
The images below are works in this series, some of which are in stages of completion. A few artworks may get scrapped while others are intercepted by inspirational photos taken while traveling through Iceland, my main source of motivation.
